How to check if an electrician is registered
- 1 Ask for the registration number of the person who will do and sign the work. Electricians are registered with the Department of Employment and Labour as an Electrical Tester for Single Phase, Installation Electrician or Master Installation Electrician.
- 2 Ask for the registered electrical contractor they work for — only a registered contractor may take on electrical work.
- 3 Check the contractor on the ECA(SA) member search. Membership is not the same as registration, but members must be registered contractors.
- 4 Get a Certificate of Compliance for any new work, signed by that registered person.

Quick check: is the business in our listings?
Every ElectricianFinder listing comes from the ECA(SA) register. Found here means they were on it when we last read it. Not found does not mean they are unregistered — use the official search above to be sure.
