Electrical Certificate of Compliance in Port Elizabeth
A certificate that a property's electrical installation complies with SANS 10142-1, the national wiring code. It is issued under the Electrical Installation Regulations, 2009, and comes with a test report of what was inspected.
When you need one
When you sell a property. The Electrical Installation Regulations expect the seller to hand over a certificate that is not older than two years when ownership changes; your sale agreement will say who pays for it.
After new electrical work or alterations: a new certificate covers the work that was done.
When an insurer or the municipality asks for one, for example for a new supply connection.
Who may issue it
Only a registered person may sign it: an Electrical Tester for Single Phase, an Installation Electrician or a Master Installation Electrician, working for a registered electrical contractor. Registration is with the Department of Employment and Labour. ECA(SA) is the contractors' association — its members are the contractors listed below, but the register does not say which person at a firm may sign, so ask.
ElectricianFinder lists only businesses on the official trade register. This page is general information, not legal advice: confirm what your sale agreement or the authority requires.
